Hooda's Laser Tag

You are one of 60 players in a big 3D neon arena, and the last one standing after the two and a half minute match wins. Move through the maze, aim at other players, and tag them with your laser while dodging theirs. Every tag you take costs a heart and you are out when your hearts run out. The glowing walls slowly close in, so keep moving toward the middle, use bunkers for cover, and climb the ramps to tag from up high. If two players are still standing when time runs out, the match goes to overtime and the player with the most tags wins.

On a computer, move with the Arrow keys or WASD and look around with the mouse. Click to tag, or leave Auto-Laser on and your wand tags automatically when your aim locks on a player. Press Space to jump, R to recharge, and ESC twice to leave a match. On a tablet or phone, put your thumb down anywhere on the left half of the screen and the joystick appears under it, drag the right half to look, and use the TAG and JUMP buttons. A quick tap also tags, and when you are aiming at a math wall, a tap picks your answer.

Math Walls are glowing multiplication problems that appear right on the arena walls, marked by a floating heart you can see across the map and on your radar. Walk up, aim at the correct answer, and tag it to instantly earn a bonus heart. Every player in the match can race for the same wall, and only the first correct answer wins the heart, so knowing your times tables makes you harder to beat.

Three ways. During a match, grab the glowing red hearts scattered around the arena, or find a Math Wall and tag the correct answer to a multiplication problem for an instant bonus heart. While you are waiting in line for the next match, open the Math Quiz and answer 5 multiplication questions in a row to bank a bonus heart for your next game. Hearts and math walls switch off near the end of each match, so heal up early.

The Mega Wand is a golden upgraded laser wand that holds 6 lasers instead of 5. While you are waiting in line, you can earn it by watching a short ad if one is available. Your sixth laser shows up gold in your wand bar so everyone watching knows you have the upgrade. It lasts for one match, and if you finish the ad after your match has already started, the Mega Wand powers up right away instead of waiting for the next game.

Yes. Hooda's Laser Tag is online multiplayer, so other kids playing right now are in the arena with you, and computer players fill any empty spots so every match has 60 players. If a match is already running, you join the line, watch the battle live, and get seated in the next game, which starts about 10 seconds after each match ends. Win a match and you go to the front of the line.

Yes. There is no chat, and player names are built automatically from three random kid-safe words, like Iron Frost Frog, from lists we picked ourselves. Nobody can type their own name, so you will never see a bad word in the arena. You can hit Randomize Name on the menu as many times as you want, and your name and crowns are saved on your device.

There are four arenas: North, East, South, and West. Each one is its own 60 player battleground with its own line, and the menu shows how many kids are in line and about how long the wait is for each. North is the default. Pick a quieter arena to play with just your class, or jump into the busiest one for the biggest battles. Your choice is remembered on your device.

Tap the Progress button on the main menu. Your personal report shows how many multiplication questions you answered today, over the last 7 days, 30 days, and 365 days, and how many you got right, like 7 out of 8 questions. A line graph tracks your percent correct day by day with your daily question count printed under each day, which makes it easy for teachers and parents to check goals like 100 problems a day. Everything is anonymous, an answer only counts as correct if it is right on the first attempt, and the All Players section shows the totals for everyone playing.

Yes. Hooda's Laser Tag runs right in your browser on Hooda Math with no downloads or plugins, and even the multiplayer connection runs through hoodamath.com, so it loads on school Chromebooks and through most classroom filters.

Yes. If the game cannot reach the multiplayer server, it automatically switches to Offline Mode, and it plays exactly like online: you wait in the same line, you can do the Math Quiz while you wait, and then you battle a full arena of 60 computer players. Wins in Offline Mode still earn crowns. The only thing that needs the internet is watching an ad for the Mega Wand, and the game will tell you that if you try.
